Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly reigniting their interest in 20-year-old Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen as they prepare for a potential defensive overhaul this summer. Although the Spanish center-back joined the Premier League side last summer despite PSG’s prior pursuit, the Ligue 1 giants are still looking to reinforce their backline—particularly with Milan Škriniar expected to leave.
According to reports from CaughtOffside, PSG will face fierce competition if they decide to go back in for Huijsen. A number of European heavyweights—Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona—are all said to be monitoring the rising talent closely.
Huijsen’s rapid emergence in the Premier League has not gone unnoticed. Since his arrival, he has been touted as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, and any potential deal will likely demand a significant fee.
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool are among the most serious contenders, eyeing Huijsen as a potential long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. The Independent adds that Arsenal are now in the mix as well, ready to trigger Huijsen’s £50 million release clause, joining the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in the bidding war.
Newcastle United have reportedly “cooled” their interest after talks with the player’s representatives, suspecting that Huijsen is leaning toward another destination.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Chelsea are currently seen as the front-runners in the race for the Spain youth international. With the summer transfer window approaching, competition is heating up, and Huijsen’s next move could become one of the window’s major storylines.
