West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher as they prepare for changes between the posts ahead of next season.
While just six places separated the two clubs in the Premier League table last season, the gap has widened drastically this year. Liverpool have secured the league title, while West Ham sit 17th, having won only nine games all season.
Despite the disparity, the Hammers are said to be interested in strengthening their squad by signing Kelleher, who is widely regarded as one of the best second-choice goalkeepers in the league. The Republic of Ireland international has impressed whenever called upon, earning praise from teammates including Virgil van Dijk, who once described him as “world-class.”
However, Kelleher’s time at Anfield may be coming to an end. With Giorgi Mamardashvili reportedly set to arrive at Liverpool this summer, new manager Arne Slot is expected to sanction Kelleher’s departure once the transfer window opens in July.
According to GiveMeSport, West Ham could make a move for the 25-year-old if they choose to upgrade their goalkeeping options. Another name reportedly on their radar is Aaron Ramsdale, who spent the season at Southampton and is also expected to be available this summer following their relegation.
With both Kelleher and Ramsdale likely to be on the move, West Ham appear poised to enter the market in search of a reliable new No. 1.
