Son Suk Ku opens up about his upcoming role in the highly anticipated JTBC drama Heavenly Ever After and his reunion with My Liberation Notes director Kim Suk Yoon.
Heavenly Ever After is a supernatural romance that explores the love story between Lee Hae Sook (Kim Hye Ja), a woman who reunites with her husband in heaven after death, and Go Nak Joon (Son Suk Ku), her devoted husband who returns to the world in his 30s. Lee Hae Sook, however, chooses to remain in her 80s appearance, which adds an interesting dynamic to their heavenly reunion.
The series marks Son Suk Ku’s second collaboration with director Kim Suk Yoon, after their successful partnership in My Liberation Notes. Reflecting on his decision to take on the role, Son Suk Ku shared, “Because of the deep trust I have in director Kim Suk Yoon, having worked together on My Liberation Notes, I was immediately drawn to this project. And when I heard I’d get to act in a romance drama with Kim Hye Ja, I didn’t hesitate to join the cast.”
In newly released stills from the drama, fans get a glimpse of Son Suk Ku as Go Nak Joon, a loving husband and a mailman in heaven who delivers “wish letters” to Earth. In one photo, Go Nak Joon enjoys a tranquil moment in his garden, reflecting the peaceful nature of his afterlife. In another, he’s seen commuting between heaven and Earth, a unique twist on the mailman’s role.
Son Suk Ku describes his character as someone whose entire world revolves around Lee Hae Sook, saying, “Go Nak Joon is a character who loves Lee Hae Sook. Everything he does is for her.”
He also touched upon the world-building of the drama, adding, “The heaven in our drama isn’t some rigid, unreal place. It’s a world crafted from very ordinary imagination that anyone can relate to. Most importantly, we are exploring something even more beautiful than heaven itself.”
Heavenly Ever After is set to premiere on April 19 at 10:40 p.m. KST, promising viewers a fresh and heartwarming take on love beyond the earthly realm.
