Fresh off clinching the Premier League title, Liverpool are setting their sights on Danish midfielder Morten Frendrup as part of their summer plans. The 24-year-old, currently thriving at Genoa in Serie A, has caught the attention of several top European clubs, but it’s Liverpool who are reportedly making the strongest push.
Frendrup joined Genoa from Brøndby IF in January 2022 and has since become a cornerstone of Patrick Vieira’s side, appearing in 34 matches this season. Known for his relentless work rate and defensive tenacity, Frendrup has helped lift Genoa 14 points above the drop zone and solidified himself as one of Serie A’s standout midfielders. His combative style has made headlines, with 209 tackles attempted—second only to Como’s Nico Paz—and 99 successful tackles, placing him among the elite across Europe’s top five leagues.
Incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot is said to be a strong admirer of Frendrup’s high-energy style, which mirrors the pressing system that has defined the Reds under Jürgen Klopp. With Liverpool preparing to defend their title next season, the addition of a versatile and dynamic midfielder like Frendrup could help strengthen the squad’s engine room.
Competition for his signature is fierce. Premier League rivals Aston Villa, Brentford, and Tottenham, as well as Italian heavyweights Juventus, Atalanta, and AC Milan, are also in the race. While Genoa are not actively looking to sell, offers in the region of €30–€35 million (£25–29m) could trigger negotiations as the summer window heats up.
Adding a personal angle to the potential move, Frendrup has previously shared that his childhood idol was Steven Gerrard. A chance to wear the same red shirt as his hero could make Anfield a dream destination.
With official bids expected in June, the battle for Morten Frendrup’s future is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer sagas.
