The 2025 live-action “Snow White” kicks off with a classic storybook introduction, setting the tone for a fresh yet familiar retelling of the beloved fairytale. Born during a blizzard to a noble King (Hadley Fraser) and Queen (Lorena Andrea), the princess is named Snow White—a symbol of purity and resilience. As a child (Emilia Faucher), she’s cherished by the villagers, who sing joyfully in her presence (“Good Things Grow”).
A Dark Turn: The Rise of the Evil Queen
Snow White’s world changes when her mother dies and her father marries a mysterious beauty (Gal Gadot), who is secretly a dark sorceress. The Queen manipulates the King into leaving on a fake crusade and seizes control of the throne once he vanishes. Her reign is cold and oppressive—taxing the people, enforcing strict rule, and using her Magic Mirror (Patrick Page) to feed her vanity.
As Snow White (now played by Rachel Zegler) matures, she’s reduced to a servant in her own home, hidden away to protect her from the Queen’s envy. When Snow White shows compassion to Jonathan (Andrew Burnap), a thief punished by the Queen, a spark of rebellion is lit in her heart (“Waiting on a Wish”).
The Queen’s Wrath and Snow White’s Escape
Discovering that Snow White is now “the fairest,” the Queen orders the Huntsman (Ansu Kabia) to kill her and bring back her heart. But when he confronts Snow White in the forest, her quiet strength moves him to mercy. He urges her to run, and she flees deep into the enchanted woods.
Guided by woodland animals, she discovers a hidden cottage and collapses inside. Soon after, seven Dwarfs—Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, Sleepy, and Dopey—return home from the mines (“Heigh-Ho”), where their magical marks sync with mystical gemstones. After initial fear and suspicion, the Dwarfs choose to protect her when they learn she’s the princess.
Whistle While You Work & Resistance Grows
As the Queen sings her descent into cruelty (“All is Fair”), Snow White bonds with the Dwarfs, encouraging Dopey to find his voice through music (“Whistle While You Work”). Later, she’s reunited with Jonathan and meets his crew—former knights turned bandits who oppose the Queen (“Princess Problems”). But danger follows, and Jonathan is injured while protecting Snow White.
Back at the cottage, their feelings blossom during his recovery (“A Hand Meets a Hand”). Soon after, he’s captured by the Queen, imprisoned alongside the Huntsman. To trap Snow White, the Queen uses her magic to transform into an old woman and deceives her with a poisoned apple.
Sleeping Death and the Awakening of Hope
Snow White falls under the Sleeping Death, just as the Queen reveals she murdered her father. The Dwarfs find her lifeless and lay her on a forest altar in mourning. In prison, Jonathan escapes with the Huntsman’s help and rushes to her side. His kiss of true love revives Snow White, breaking the curse.
Empowered, Snow White rouses her allies (“Waiting on a Wish Reprise”). Inspired by her strength, Dopey speaks for the first time, and the Dwarfs pledge to fight alongside her.
Final Showdown: Snow White vs. The Queen
In the climactic battle at the palace (“Snow White Returns”), Snow White refuses to stoop to the Queen’s level and instead appeals to the guards’ humanity. Her words reach them, and they reject the Queen’s orders. In desperation, the Queen flees to her Magic Mirror, which betrays her one final time. She shatters it in fury but is consumed by its magic, sealed away forever.
A Joyful Ending
The kingdom is finally freed from tyranny. Peace and celebration return with the reprise of “Good Things Grow.” Snow White marries Jonathan and becomes queen. The final twist? Dopey has been the narrator all along, retelling the story of the princess who saved them all.
