With goals hard to come by and Champions League qualification hanging in the balance, Manchester United’s summer rebuild is set to start from the front. According to the latest Man United transfer news, the Red Devils have set their sights firmly on Matheus Cunha, with Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford also heavily linked.
Cunha the Primary Target
United are reportedly in pole position to sign Cunha, edging out top-flight rivals like Arsenal. The Brazilian striker, currently playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has made no secret of his interest in a move to Old Trafford. And while United still face uncertainty around European qualification, Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that Cunha remains the top priority regardless of that outcome.
“As far as I know, the main target remains Cunha,” said Romano.
“For Mbeumo, there will be many clubs involved, so it’s an open race.”
Despite Wolves’ patchy season, Cunha has been a bright spark—netting 15 goals and assisting six in 30 appearances. His ability to perform even when the team is under pressure makes him a standout candidate for Erik ten Hag’s squad, especially if United stick to a striker-focused front line next season.
Mbeumo: Versatile and In-Demand
While Cunha is the out-and-out striker United crave, Bryan Mbeumo offers versatility across the entire front line. The Cameroonian international has quietly racked up 18 goals and seven assists for Brentford this season and was a standout performer in Brentford’s recent 4-3 thriller against United, contributing yet another assist.
His ability to play **across the front three—right wing, striker, and centre-forward—**would fit seamlessly into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, should United move forward with him as manager. However, competition is fierce. Liverpool and Newcastle are both reportedly monitoring Mbeumo, and their guaranteed spots in European competitions could sway the race in their favor.
More Names in the Mix
While Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap have also been mentioned, all signs point to Cunha as the most realistic and motivated option. With his Premier League experience and willingness to join even without the Champions League incentive, he may be the most pragmatic solution to United’s glaring striker issue.
With the summer window fast approaching, Man United cannot afford to miss out on a clinical finisher. Whether it’s the versatile Mbeumo or the direct and dynamic Cunha, the upcoming transfer period could define the Red Devils’ ambitions for next season.
