Kim Ji Hyun and Sungjae Chemistry Captivates Fans On and Off Screen
The incredible Kim Ji Hyun and Sungjae chemistry took center stage as the actress reflected on their shared experience filming their new fantasy project. “Honestly, more than anything—seven times over—I’m just grateful I met actor Sungjae,” Kim Ji Hyun shared warmly when asked about the most memorable part of working together.
Their new film blends surreal fantasy elements with deep human emotions, anchored by the powerful dynamic between their characters, Chul and Yeo-ri. “I never imagined we’d work together on something like this,” Kim confessed. “But now, I can’t picture it any other way. It feels like fate.”
Building Their Bond Through Shared History
The strength of Kim Ji Hyun and Sungjae’s chemistry is grounded in years of real-life friendship. Though their characters are written as if they’ve been connected for 13 years, that closeness wasn’t hard to channel. “At first, I thought the emotional depth would be tough to show,” she explained, “but it came surprisingly naturally—like something already embedded in us.”
Reflecting on the early days of filming, she recalled the usual awkward silences actors face. “You usually force small talk to fill the gaps,” she said with a laugh. “But with us, there was no need. We’ve known each other for over a decade. One time, someone even asked if we weren’t getting along!” she chuckled. “We just don’t need to say much—we’re that comfortable.”
Tears, Action, and Unexpected Strength
Sungjae couldn’t help but praise Kim Ji Hyun’s signature tearful performances. “When she cries, you can’t look away,” he said. “She brings such emotional intensity—it transforms the whole scene.” Ji Hyun admitted those scenes aren’t easy. “It’s odd—if it were me in real life, I wouldn’t cry. But as Yeo-ri, the tears just come.”
Surprisingly, it was the action sequences that brought her joy. “I love physically demanding scenes,” she said. “There was one where we danced, and I went all in. The action team was stunned!” She smiled, “I think they saw a side of me they didn’t expect.”
Mutual Respect and Shared Passion
Kim Ji Hyun spoke with deep admiration for Sungjae’s commitment throughout the intense filming process. “If I could say one thing to him, it would be thank you. It was physically and emotionally exhausting, but he never lost focus,” she shared. “He’d analyze every detail, even help me see things in the script I missed. Watching him made me want to push harder.”
She admitted fantasy was unfamiliar territory for her. “It’s my first time doing something so rooted in fantasy, and it was honestly overwhelming. But Sungjae’s experience helped me adjust. He’s a generous actor—always ready to support.”
A Nightmare That Feels Like a Dream
As production continues, Kim Ji Hyun affectionately calls their shoot “a nightmare I don’t want to wake up from.” “It’s hard,” she laughed. “We’re constantly drained, and even the weather fights us. But it’s addictive—you want to keep going deeper.” She added, “We joke about blaming everything on the Imoogi, but truthfully, it’s been a beautiful challenge. One I’ll never forget.” For more info on The Haunted Palace, do check out the link below.
