Resident Playbook Episode 9 — Tensions Rise as I-yeong and Dr. Myung Clash On-Camera
Resident Playbook episode 9 begins with the OB-GYN residents returning to work. Nam-kyung, missing a spot in the elevator, encounters Professor Seo and a new intern doctor. During their exchange, it’s revealed that the intern doesn’t intend to specialize in OB-GYN, disappointing Professor Seo, who had assumed otherwise.
Elsewhere, I-yeong assists a production team creating a new show centered around hospital life. Just as filming begins, Dr. Myung rushes in with a pregnant patient needing urgent care. The cameras capture the emergency, and afterward, Dr. Myung agrees to be interviewed. In front of the crew, she assures the patient of a natural delivery, even as I-yeong privately raises concerns about potential risks.
Meanwhile, a second-year doctor is reprimanded by a professor due to a mistake made by Jae-il. However, instead of punishment, Jae-il is met with surprising compassion. This gesture leaves a mark on him, motivating him to become more responsible.
I-yeong’s Hopeful Plans and Jae-il’s Dilemma with the Intern
Later that evening, I-yeong has dinner with friends and visits her family. She learns that Ju-yeong’s procedure has finally succeeded, and although they await confirmation, the embryo has taken. Inspired, I-yeong opens a savings account the next day to buy a gift for the baby’s birth next year. At the bank, she runs into Do-won. After she jokes about his unreliability, he asks her to dinner.
Elsewhere, Jae-il shows patience with a new intern who keeps making mistakes. Instead of scolding him like Sa-bi might, Jae-il remains supportive. Unfortunately, he soon discovers that the intern has been calling him a pushover behind his back and lying about completed tasks. Hurt but composed, Jae-il confides in Do-won, who gives him balanced advice: scold mistakes, praise effort.
Sa-bi’s Misstep and the Showdown in the Delivery Room
At the hospital, Sa-bi voices her frustration with her senior, accusing her of never answering questions. She ends up making a wrong diagnosis after ignoring her senior’s assessment, leading her to contact the professor directly. The next day, both are reprimanded for breaking protocol. Later, Sa-bi apologizes, and her senior admits she didn’t know the correct answer either. They reconcile and restore their working relationship.
Meanwhile, the cameras keep following Dr. Myung, and she instructs I-yeong to frequently monitor the pregnant patient. When labor stalls for three hours, I-yeong urges a C-section. Dr. Myung, hesitant to compromise her image, resists and then blames I-yeong when surgery becomes necessary. Though the baby is delivered safely, Dr. Myung’s on-camera facade infuriates I-yeong.
Romantic Misfires, Bonus Perks, and a Public Spotlight
Do-won’s romantic plans fall apart when the florist gets into an accident and he realizes he scheduled their dinner on the wrong day. He texts I-yeong to cancel. Frustrated after everything that’s happened, I-yeong even considers quitting—but Nam-kyung reminds her of the December bonus, which is just enough to keep her going.
The residents later go out for karaoke, where Jae-il sings and is unexpectedly joined by a tipsy Sa-bi. She admits she was once a fan of his idol group, but of a different member.
Back home, I-yeong finds Do-won waiting. He awkwardly explains the date mix-up and finally confesses his feelings. They walk together, hand-in-hand, and share a kiss in the elevator before Do-won realizes their siblings are out. Choosing caution, he returns to the hospital instead of heading inside with her.
The next day, the residents gather to watch the teaser for the hospital reality show—featuring none other than Dr. Myung as the star, much to I-yeong’s dismay.
