10 Tastefully Yours Behind-The-Scenes Facts Fans Love

Tastefully Yours has become a fan-favorite internationally despite receiving mixed responses in Korea. Many are now curious about the Tastefully Yours behind-the-scenes stories that give more depth to the drama. From how the cast prepared to the unique inspirations behind the show, here are ten fascinating behind-the-scenes facts every viewer should know.

Cast and Crew Reveal Tastefully Yours Behind-The-Scenes Secrets

Tastefully Yours has quickly become one of the most talked-about K-dramas among international fans, even though it hasn’t gained the same traction in Korea. While it may not be topping domestic ratings, the global audience is hooked—and eager to discover the behind-the-scenes secrets that brought the show to life.

At the heart of the story is Han Bom-woo, the privileged heir of a major food conglomerate, portrayed by Kang Ha-neul. Despite running Seoul’s top fine dining restaurant, Bom-woo is indifferent to food and more concerned about corporate control. His perspective shifts after a transformative meal at a modest eatery in Jeonju, where he meets chef Mo Yanju, played by Go Min-si. Their contrasting views on food spark a budding romance. The show also introduces viewers to Jin Mong-suk (Kim Shin-rok), the star chef of Jeonju’s top restaurant, and Shin Chan-sung (Yoo Soo-bin), the son of the restaurant’s owner.

Ahead of the drama’s release, Kang Ha-neul shared his excitement, calling the show a flavorful blend of elegant cuisine and soul-warming comfort food. He described it as the kind of drama best enjoyed late at night. Go Min-si added that the series follows four characters on a heartfelt journey as they mature and help one another grow. Kim Shin-rok compared the drama to Jeonju Jang soup—initially familiar, but unexpectedly rich in emotion. Yoo Soo-bin felt the show was best experienced with loved ones and revealed he immersed himself in Jeonju’s local culture to prepare.

Director Han Joon-hee shared that the concept stemmed from his fond memories of dining in Jeonju during the city’s film festival. Those meals inspired a short story that eventually developed into the full narrative. The drama is deeply personal to him, with several characters named after real-life friends. Co-director Park Dan-hae emphasized the emotional weight behind the characters, explaining the show’s goal to authentically portray the lives of real restaurant owners.

To bring realism to their roles, the cast underwent intensive cooking training. Go Min-si already had some kitchen experience from her 2024 role in Jinny’s Kitchen Season 2, which helped her ease into the part. Still, as the female lead in a cooking-themed rom-com, she had to sharpen her culinary skills significantly. She practiced relentlessly, especially her knife skills, and received on-set instruction from chefs. She noted that the popular reality series Culinary Class Wars inspired her, particularly the sincerity each chef displayed.

Because her character hails from the Jeolla region, Go Min-si also had to learn the local dialect. She trained with experts to master tone, accent, and word usage, but some Korean viewers still found her speech unnatural, even suggesting she should’ve stuck to standard Korean. Nonetheless, fans appreciated seeing her take on a drastically different role. She said receiving the script felt like a birthday gift and immediately fell for the character of Yanju—someone who’s stubborn and quirky but genuinely warm and passionate. When asked to compare Yanju to food, she chose classic kimbap: simple, reliable, and comforting.

Kang Ha-neul, returning to dramas after a hiatus, said he couldn’t put the script down and agreed to the role instantly. Although some viewers were wary of yet another chaebol heir role, he aimed to present Bom-woo in a fresh light—awkward yet prideful. He approached the character not by focusing on clichés, but by exploring what would make him entertaining and emotionally resonant. Comparing Bom-woo to bracken, Kang noted that while it’s good on its own, it shines even more in dishes like bibimbap—just as his character complements the ensemble.

The camaraderie among the cast was a highlight on set. Behind-the-scenes footage shows countless takes ruined by laughter, especially during scenes with Kang and Yoo Soo-bin, who brought comedic energy both in and out of character. Go Min-si and Kang also shared many fun moments, showing off their strong on-screen chemistry. In one memorable instance, Min-si had to prepare for a scene featuring dakji, the Korean flipping game made popular by Squid Game. While she practiced, Kang stood just off camera, laughing uncontrollably.

These behind-the-scenes moments have amplified buzz around Tastefully Yours, with many fans rallying behind the show even if it underperformed in South Korea. While ratings were low and criticisms emerged, especially concerning dialect and casting, international audiences embraced the warmth, sincerity, and culinary charm the series delivered.
