Our Movie Episode 1 Recap: A New Chapter Begins
Our Movie Episode 1 begins with poetic melancholy as a film’s credits roll, leaving Je-ha and Da-eum as the only two viewers in a silent theatre. For Da-eum, every ending signals a fresh beginning—a motif that anchors this emotionally layered debut episode. The series introduces two strangers whose lives intersect in the wake of death, regret, and creative rebirth.
Je-ha, a once-celebrated director, is grappling with the death of his estranged father, Lee Du-young—an acclaimed filmmaker in his own right. Though Je-ha’s debut catapulted producer Bu Seung-won and actress Seo-yeong into stardom, he has since fallen into a five-year slump, refusing every new project. One such proposal? A remake of Love in White, Du-young’s most iconic film and, as it turns out, a deeply personal wound for Je-ha.
Je-ha’s Painful Legacy and Da-eum’s Unlikely Light
Je-ha resents his father, both for his emotional absence and for turning Love in White—a story inspired by Je-ha’s terminally ill mother—into a career-defining, but hollow, success. Flashbacks reveal that the screenplay was actually written by his mother, Yu Eu-nae, only for Du-young to claim authorship. This discovery compels Je-ha to take on the remake—not out of ambition, but as a tribute to his mother’s uncredited legacy.
Meanwhile, Da-eum brings a refreshing energy to the narrative. She’s a bright, curious woman often seen recording the world with her handycam. After accidentally filming Je-ha outside a party, she offers him a grape drink in apology. It seems trivial, but it becomes the first of several fateful encounters between them.

An Emotional Bond Begins to Form
Both Je-ha and Da-eum separately attend a screening of Love in White. While he scorns it, Da-eum is overcome with emotion. Later, she befriends an elderly woman over lunch, reflecting on the quiet beauty of aging. The contrast between Da-eum’s empathy and Je-ha’s bitterness sets up an intriguing emotional dynamic.
Je-ha’s path also crosses again with Seo-yeong, his former lover, and he learns more about the production of his father’s film—only deepening his anger and resolve to remake it properly. At the same time, Da-eum’s chance meeting with Seo-yeong reveals her as someone who sees beauty in everyday moments, filming them in case she can no longer experience them. The bittersweet context? Da-eum is terminally ill.
Our Movie Episode 1 Recap: An Unexpected Revelation
As Seung-won brings in Da-eum’s doctor to consult on the script’s medical realism, Je-ha is invited to a funeral. There, he finds Da-eum sobbing—mourning someone else’s loss while transforming the somber setting into a celebration of life. They share a brief but meaningful interaction, ending with Da-eum’s surprising announcement: she’s not only terminally ill, but also Je-ha’s new consultant for the film.
In a beautiful twist of fate, the episode ends with the promise of a partnership forged through sorrow, creativity, and perhaps even healing. For more of Korean drama recaps, check out the link below.
