5 K-Pop Groups From 2012 That Are Still Thriving After 13 Years

5 K-Pop Groups From 2012 That Are Still Thriving After 13 Years

The K-Pop industry is known for its fierce competition, fast-paced trends, and constant influx of new groups. Every year, dozens of talented groups debut, but few manage to stand the test of time. Debuting is just the first hurdle—staying active and relevant through changes in the industry, mandatory military service, agency conflicts, and personal career shifts is even harder.

In 2012 alone, 40 K-Pop groups officially debuted. Now, 13 years later, only five of those gro5 K-Pop Groups From 2012 That Are Still Thriving After 13 Yearsups have survived—whether as full units, smaller subgroups, or through occasional reunions. Here’s a closer look at the impressive groups who are still making waves in 2025:

1. B.A.P

B.A.P burst onto the scene on January 26, 2012, with their powerful debut track, “Warrior.” The group quickly gained attention for their intense performances and charismatic stage presence. However, their journey wasn’t without hardships.

After a lengthy and highly publicized legal battle with their agency, TS Entertainment, all members eventually left the company. Though some media outlets declared the group disbanded, the members insisted that a future reunion was possible—and they kept their promise.

In 2024, Bang Yongguk, Jung Daehyun, Yoo Youngjae, and Moon Jungup reunited under a new name formed from their surnames, since they could no longer use “B.A.P.” They held special promotions and delighted long-time fans with nostalgic performances.

2. BTOB

BTOB made their debut on March 21, 2012, with the emotional track “Insane.” Throughout the years, they’ve built a reputation for both their strong vocal abilities and heartwarming brotherhood.

Despite facing changes—such as Ilhoon’s departure in 2020 due to legal issues—the remaining members stayed strong. After completing their military duties, BTOB members Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Hyunsik, and Peniel launched their own agency, BtoB Company, while Changsub and Sungjae pursued separate agency contracts.

In 2025, BTOB (mostly promoting as a quartet) released their new mini-album, BToday, showing that even after more than a decade, they still have much to offer.

3. EXID

EXID officially debuted in February 2012 with “Whoz That Girl,” but it wasn’t until their viral 2014 fancam of Hani performing “Up & Down” that they skyrocketed to fame.

After a successful run, the group went on hiatus in 2020 as members focused on their solo careers. However, they regrouped in 2022 to celebrate their 10th anniversary with an independent album, much to fans’ joy.

While EXID hasn’t dropped new music recently, they continue to perform together at special stages like KBS’s Immortal Songs 2, showing that their bond as a five-member unit remains unbreakable.

4. EXO

No list of long-lasting K-Pop groups would be complete without EXO. Debuting on April 8, 2012, with “Mama,” EXO quickly became a global sensation, setting records and amassing a massive fanbase worldwide.

Over the years, the group has dealt with member departures and the challenges of managing multiple solo careers, but they’ve consistently come together for major milestones.

In July 2023, they released their 10th anniversary album, Exist, showcasing their continued dominance. While a full group comeback is on hold due to military obligations—Sehun is expected to complete his service soon—D.O. has confirmed that a full comeback is being planned for 2026.

5. VIXX

Formed through Mnet’s reality show MyDol, VIXX made their debut on May 24, 2012, with “Super Hero.” They quickly gained recognition for their unique “concept-dol” identity, incorporating complex themes and storytelling into their music and performances.

Over the years, VIXX faced several challenges, including Hongbin’s departure in 2020 and Ravi’s exit in 2023 following a military exemption controversy. Despite these changes, Leo, Ken, and Hyuk continue to actively promote as a trio. Meanwhile, former leader N has been making strides in his acting career.

Final Thoughts:
Longevity in K-Pop isn’t easy. These five groups—B.A.P, BTOB, EXID, EXO, and VIXX—have proven that true artistry, strong fan connections, and perseverance can outlast even the toughest industry challenges. Whether through active promotions, reunion projects, or milestone celebrations, they continue to leave a lasting legacy in K-Pop history.
