Bet Episode 5 opens on a somber note, with the school gathered for Blake’s funeral. Chad, the newest member of the student council and Suki’s replacement, is met with sideways glances and shallow sympathy. Meanwhile, Kira confides in Yumeko, revealing that Raymond Rowe had allegedly worked as a mob informant. Michael backs up this claim, warning Yumeko that she may have targeted an innocent man. Though still skeptical, Yumeko begins to doubt herself.
With control slipping, Kira—now leading the student council—announces a chaotic new event: House Wars, a school-wide game where each house must capture rival house flags. The last house standing wins a grand prize, while the individual who captures the final flag earns 50,000 chips. The announcement immediately hooks Mary’s attention. Yumeko and Ryan, both from Heart House, agree to help Mary, even though it’s clear the Spade House—home to student council members—has rigged the game in their favor.
The Rules, The Rigging, and the Chaos
Each participant receives a single card. Players can duel to steal flags, with higher cards winning—except that a 2 beats an Ace. The Spade House stacks the deck by distributing the strongest cards among their own. Kira holds a Jack, Riri an Ace, ensuring they dominate early skirmishes.
Ryan suggests they lie low until the high cards have been played. When they reach the Diamond House, it’s already been wiped out by Spade House operatives. They spot Kira leaving the student council room—the vault holding the Spade House flag—to meet her mother.
We then learn a deeper family secret: Kira and Riri are half-sisters. Kira’s father, a powerful figure on the school board, warns her that the instability at school could jeopardize her future. Kira tells Riri she intends to flip the system in their favor once she seizes power. She even swaps her high-value card with Riri before walking away, leaving Yumeko to be hunted by Dori.
Sneaking, Betrayal, and a Secret Passage
Yumeko escapes Dori using a narrow, hidden tunnel meant for house pets, bringing Mary along with her. Together, they infiltrate the student council room unnoticed. Meanwhile, Michael disables Kira’s keycard access, tricking her into leaving the door vulnerable.
Inside, Mary duels Riri and triumphs with a King of Hearts, winning the coveted Spade flag. Kira rushes in but Yumeko challenges her to a duel. Though Kira plays a Jack, Yumeko counters with the unlikeliest of wins—a 2 of Hearts. She had bluffed, and Kira fell for it. Yumeko reveals Michael was secretly helping her the entire time.
A Hollow Prize and a Shocking Discovery
The Heart House is declared the winner, but the grand prize turns out to be nothing more than a pile of chocolate Raisinets. Still, Mary is finally freed from her degrading house pet status, marking a small but personal victory.
After the chaos settles, Yumeko concedes that Michael was right—Raymond Rowe couldn’t have been her parents’ murderer. She reveals a photo she’d swiped during the match between Mary and Riri: an old image of the Kakegurui Club. Someone in that picture, Yumeko believes, is the true killer.
The episode ends with Yumeko’s resolve renewed, her eyes set on uncovering the mystery behind that photograph.
