The Bryan Mbeumo transfer saga is gaining momentum, with Brentford setting a £60 million price tag for their dynamic forward as Manchester United eye summer reinforcements. According to The Telegraph, Mbeumo has become a leading target for the Red Devils as they prepare to strengthen their attacking line.
United’s shortlist also includes Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Ipswich’s Liam Delap. While the club secured Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January, they notably refrained from signing any forwards—a decision they’re looking to correct in the coming transfer window.
Bryan Mbeumo Transfer May Rely on United’s Outgoings
However, financial constraints may limit United’s freedom in the market. The club’s transfer activity could hinge on their ability to sell current players due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) considerations. Though rising stars like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could attract substantial fees, no major sales or arrivals have been finalized. Offloading Marcus Rashford’s reported £315,000-per-week salary could ease the financial burden, but as of now, no move is in motion.
Mbeumo’s form this season speaks for itself. With 18 goals and 7 assists, he’s been instrumental in Brentford’s campaign and their push for a Europa Conference League place. His chemistry with fellow attacker Yoane Wissa—who’s matched him with 18 goals—has been central to manager Thomas Frank’s aggressive, high-pressing strategy.
Brentford Ready to Sell, but Only at the Right Price
What makes the Bryan Mbeumo transfer particularly enticing for top clubs is his versatility. Though he predominantly operates on the right flank, Mbeumo has also played as a striker and even filled in at wing-back—making him a valuable asset for any squad seeking tactical flexibility.
Brentford are known for developing talent and cashing in at peak value, and Mbeumo appears to be next in line. Manager Thomas Frank hinted earlier this year that offers would be considered, but only for a significant sum.
“If the price is right—and that’s going to be expensive—I’m sure the club will be open to it,” Frank told Sky Sports. “We’re a selling club, yes, but there are only about 10 clubs in the world that aren’t.”
Newcastle United are also reportedly watching the situation closely, positioning themselves as a potential rival to United in the pursuit. Mbeumo’s recent performance against Manchester United offered a fitting audition, possibly strengthening his case for a summer switch to Old Trafford.
