A surprising family revelation has caught the attention of viewers ahead of the next episode of Channel A’s Family Beyond Borders. On Episode 81, set to air May 1 KST, soccer legend and Chef & My Fridge MC Ahn Jung Hwan’s wife, Lee Hye Won, makes a heartfelt confession — she once moved to Singapore with their son without telling her husband.
The episode features Ahn Jung Hwan alongside fellow MCs Lee Hye Won, Yoo Se Yoon, and Song Jin Woo, with international representatives Fabien (France), Cristina (Italy), and Chris (USA). It also introduces the “Singapore Family,” Yoon Ji Young and Tomoyuki, a Korean-Japanese couple who met while Yoon was working as a model and later settled in Singapore.
During the broadcast, Lee Hye Won revealed that she also lived in Singapore for two years — but in secret. Explaining her drastic decision, she shared:
“At the time, Ahn Jung Hwan was against the idea of Ri Hwan (who plays the trumpet) pursuing music. I wanted to support Ri Hwan in studying music secretly, without his father knowing, so I made the decision to move to Singapore away from Ahn Jung Hwan’s eyes.”
She added that the decision was both her choice and shaped by circumstances, as she sought to protect her son’s dream.
Ahn Jung Hwan responded candidly, admitting that he was once firmly against his son pursuing music:
“I used to think that choosing music as a career would be hard and lead to a life of struggle. Maybe I was a bit old-fashioned.”
Despite their clashing opinions at the time, the couple’s mutual understanding shone through. Lee acknowledged her husband’s perspective, noting his tough experiences as an athlete shaped his concern for their son’s future.
The emotional and respectful exchange between the couple struck a chord with viewers, offering a rare look into how family values, dreams, and sacrifices can coexist — even if it means secretly crossing borders.
