Eden Hazard Critiques Modern Football’s “Unexciting” Stars
Eden Hazard recently shared his thoughts on the state of modern football, offering a candid critique of what he sees as a lack of excitement in today’s game.
“You have players, I am not going to name them, I respect what they do, but they score three goals by doing it three times,” Hazard said, miming a simple tap-in. “And afterward, we say, ‘Wow!’ They play in great teams, they win, but can only give something to the supporter of their team, nothing to me. They don’t excite me at all.”
Hazard explained that his vision of football is centered on inspiring fans through creativity and flair rather than just statistics. “For me, that was the player I wanted to be — exciting people,” he said. “Today the only thing that matters is having goals and assists.”

The Belgian forward’s comments highlight a broader debate in football culture: the balance between efficiency and spectacle. While modern players are celebrated for measurable success like scoring and assisting, Hazard laments the loss of moments that genuinely thrill spectators and showcase artistry on the pitch.
Fans and analysts alike have responded to Hazard’s perspective, sparking discussions on whether modern football rewards flair or prioritizes results above all else. For Hazard, the joy of the game lies in the excitement players bring — something he feels is often missing in contemporary top-level football.
