Former After School Member Lizzy Opens Up About Depression
Former After School member Lizzy revealed her ongoing battle with severe depression during a recent personal livestream, giving fans a raw and emotional glimpse into the challenges behind her public image.
On Wednesday, Lizzy went live on her social media account, appearing visibly distressed while responding to malicious comments and questions about her appearance. She explained she underwent corrective surgery following a past medical error and spoke candidly about the toll of living life under constant scrutiny.

“Being a celebrity means your whole life is out in the open,” Lizzy shared. “If someone told me they wanted to do this job, I’d try to talk them out of it. It’s just so much tougher for female idols.”
She admitted her depression had become severe, even leading to thoughts about life and death. “My depression got so bad that I was talking about life and death … which actually got my old account suspended, so I came here,” she said. “What good is a wonderful world if I am suffering?”

Lizzy debuted with After School in 2010 and gained additional recognition through the sub-unit Orange Caramel. Following a drunk-driving incident in 2021, she stepped away from the public eye, though she has recently indicated a possible return by holding a fan meeting in Japan.
While acknowledging her past mistakes, many fans and observers are now focused on her mental health and hope Lizzy receives the professional support and rest she needs. Her candid livestream has sparked conversations about the pressures of celebrity life, the unique challenges faced by female idols, and the importance of mental health care in the entertainment industry.
