Heavenly Ever After Episode 9 begins with Nak-jun recognizing the elderly police officer, just as Som-I realizes he’s the same Hawaiian shirt man from her recurring dreams. During Nak-jun’s pursuit, the old man is struck by a truck and killed. But in the afterlife, his spirit blames Nak-jun for his death and attacks him. Som-I steps in and fights back against the ghost, but the chaos only ends when the Grim Reaper arrives. Due to the disruption, Nak-jun and Som-I miss their celestial transport and risk deletion for violating heavenly rules. Back in the afterlife, Nak-jun is suspended from his Earthly duties and returns home with Som-I.
Elsewhere, Hae-suk visits a church again and prepares food for the pastor. During their conversation, he shares a story about how the President once said a prayer is already answered—one just has to say “Amen.” This line strikes a chord. Overhearing this, Jjajang and Jjampong start praying fervently for food, while Hae-suk begins to pray for the end of obstacles in her love life. Right on cue, Nak-jun appears, announcing he’ll be off-duty for a while. Hae-suk takes it as a divine sign that she and Nak-jun are destined.
Som-I, now harboring feelings for Nak-jun, tries to open up to Young-ae. But Young-ae swiftly shuts it down, warning her that Nak-jun is emotionally off-limits because of Hae-suk—someone she treasures deeply.
Meanwhile, the dogs Jjajang and Jjampong wait hungrily, but still receive no food. The President advises them to pray for something deeper. Jjajang wishes for a serious job where he could inspire fear in evildoers. In response, a Hell agent appears and recruits both dogs to join Hell’s team. Jjampong hesitates but goes along.

At the same time, Young-ae’s father—who had endured punishment in Hell—finally reaches Heaven after paying for his past sins. Desperate to reconnect, he approaches Young-ae outside the President’s office. She panics and runs, seeking refuge in Hae-suk and Nak-jun’s home. Nak-jun tries to dismiss the man, but when he lingers, Young-ae drags him to the President, demanding retribution.
The President reveals that in Hell, the man’s punishment was to be filled with an overwhelming love for his daughter. Now, his fate hinges on Young-ae’s forgiveness. She must forgive him so he can be reborn and make things right.
Then, a stunning twist: In a past life, Young-ae had been romantically involved with this man. She was the mistress, and Hae-suk—her daughter—had been born from that illicit union. Young-ae’s affair shattered a family, leaving Hae-suk and the man’s first wife abandoned. After learning the truth, Young-ae grants forgiveness. She revisits the emotional memories of that lifetime: growing to love Hae-suk and longing for more time with her before dying prematurely.
That evening, Young-ae quietly joins Hae-suk in bed, overcome with emotion. The next day, they share a heartfelt picnic. Young-ae opens up about her genuine affection for Hae-suk, who now recognizes Young-ae as her mother.
Following this moment of healing, Young-ae vanishes from the afterlife—waking up in the real world from a three-month coma. In a past conversation, the President had confided the truth to Hae-suk, and she, having understood the depth of Young-ae’s love, had prayed for a peaceful farewell.
The episode closes with a poignant prayer from the pastor. He asks for the strength to release his bitterness and reconnect with his mother. At that moment, Hae-suk enters the room—and he calls her “Mom.” Meanwhile, Som-I wakes up from a nightmare, crying out, “My son.”
