Heavenly Ever After Episode 8: Som-I’s Emotions Deepen and the Past Unravels

Heavenly Ever After Episode 8 opens with Som-I visiting the pastor, anxiously asking if redemption is possible through sincere prayer. Back at home, tensions run high as Nak-jun and Hae-suk remain locked in silence, avoiding each other entirely. Later, in a shocking scene, Som-I is seen choking an elderly man. Nak-jun finds her just in time and stops her, becoming aware of her violent impulse. She later thanks him for saving her, claiming he pulled her from hell, but warns that if she decides to atone for her sins after regaining her memories, he must let her go.

Meanwhile, Hae-suk returns to the church and discovers that the soaked rice she had left has turned into rice wine. She heads home and sees Nak-jun and Som-I arriving together. Once Som-I leaves, another argument erupts between Nak-jun and Hae-suk over his mother, pushing them back into silence.

The following day, Nak-jun and Som-I journey back to the mortal world. On the way, Nak-jun speculates that Som-I might have been able to physically touch the man she attacked because of her intense emotions. As they walk, Som-I gives a top to a baby and unexpectedly breaks into tears, overwhelmed by an unexplainable sadness.

Elsewhere, Hae-suk and the pastor decide to cook a dish using the rice wine. As they wait, she drinks a little too much and dozes off. She wakes up to find the pastor drunkenly causing a scene, leading to both of them being taken to a support center. Eventually, Nak-jun finds them and brings Hae-suk home. That night, she opens up about the mistreatment she faced from his mother—how she was always given fish heads while the good parts were denied to her. One time, when she dared to eat the middle portion, her mother-in-law insulted her parentage, despite knowing she was an orphan. Hearing this, Nak-jun finally realizes the pain she endured.

The next morning, Nak-jun, Som-I, and Young-ae try to make hangover soup for Hae-suk but fail hilariously. Hae-suk admits she wants to make peace with her mother-in-law, but Nak-jun tells her there’s no need—his mother has already decided not to come back.

Later, Hae-suk visits her mother-in-law and discovers she has applied for reincarnation. At the same time, Young-ae becomes increasingly obsessed with pursuing the president, though her efforts remain fruitless. Meanwhile, the president opens up to the pastor, admitting he’s felt happier since Hae-suk started visiting the church.

As time passes, Som-I begins to grow emotionally closer to Nak-jun. But when she sees him with Hae-suk, she finds herself unable to sleep. She walks to the church and confesses her sin to the pastor—that she has fallen for Nak-jun.

The next day, Nak-jun and Hae-suk accompany his mother to a reincarnation workshop. The president explains that reincarnation purifies one’s soul, though each person experiences it differently. Nak-jun’s mother chooses a difficult life for her next reincarnation to repay her karmic debts. During a family meal, she apologizes to Hae-suk, and the two finally reconcile. It’s revealed that her memories will vanish after reincarnation.

The president then shares glimpses of the family’s past lives. In one, Hae-suk was the cruel mother-in-law who drove Nak-jun’s current mother to stab herself. After heartfelt farewells, Nak-jun and Hae-suk head home.

Later, Hae-suk finds a flower ring Som-I made for Nak-jun in his pocket. Remembering a similar one on Som-I’s finger earlier, she’s left wondering about their true relationship.

As Heavenly Ever After Episode 8 ends, Nak-jun encounters the elderly man Som-I had once attacked. To his shock, the man is a police officer—the same one Som-I kept seeing in her dreams, wearing a Hawaiian shirt—setting the stage for an ominous turn of events.
