In Episode 2 of Our Unwritten Seoul, tensions simmer beneath the surface as the twins Mi-ji and Mi-rae continue their swapped lives. Our Unwritten Seoul, captures more than just the title—it reflects the emotional blueprints each character sketches across Seoul’s cityscape.
The episode begins with Ho-su reflecting on Mi-ji’s ignorance of his condition, softening his prior anger. He attempts to reconnect by visiting the neighboring house, where he finds the twins post-shower, their hair wrapped in towels. Without hesitation, Ho-su correctly identifies them, proving how well he’s come to know them—visual cues aside.
Flashbacks reveal how the twins pulled off their switch: Mi-ji lengthens her hair while Mi-rae chops hers short, though she skips the bleaching. Now masquerading as Mi-rae at her sister’s workplace, Mi-ji crashes a meeting that’s already begun and takes charge with an assertiveness that stuns her coworkers. Meanwhile, Mi-rae evades visiting their grandmother by heading to the strawberry farm instead. There, Se-jin, the aloof farm owner, tells her to do as she pleases until payday—essentially assigning her nothing.
As days pass, both sisters grow more entwined in each other’s routines. Mi-ji receives a project offer from Mi-rae’s director, only to realize it’s a trap: she must persuade an elderly restaurant owner to sell her land. If she fails, the fallout will be hers alone. Her initial attempt is met with salt being flung in her face—literally. Mi-ji soon recognizes this setup as a calculated move to sabotage Mi-rae.
On a quieter note, Mi-ji finds Ho-su struggling with sensory overload from loud music. They escape to the Han River, where she finally eats the humble cup ramen she once yearned for in high school. A flashback reveals this was once on her “Seoul bucket list” before her accident. In this peaceful moment, Ho-su asks if Mi-rae dropped her case due to his involvement. Still pretending to be Mi-rae, Mi-ji dodges the question.
Elsewhere, Mi-rae challenges Se-jin at the farm for his manipulative behavior. When she falls off her bicycle, it marks both a literal and symbolic low point. Later, she tries to talk honestly with Mi-ji, but the conversation falters. Still, Mi-rae makes an emotional visit to their grandmother in disguise—only to be instantly recognized and lovingly welcomed home.
Ho-su, meanwhile, uncovers that he was intentionally assigned to Mi-rae’s case by his superior—part of a ploy to make her back down. This revelation adds to his moral conflict about the job. He tells Mi-ji (still posing as Mi-rae) that he’s considering quitting, echoing her earlier views on injustice. Their riverside exchange becomes a turning point.
The episode closes on a dramatic note. Mi-ji, still trying to win over the old restaurant owner, returns to plead for human decency but is once again met with a salt attack. Just then, she receives a text from the old woman requesting to meet again. Mi-ji lights up with genuine joy—and lets her guard drop. Ho-su catches this slip, and in that instant, realizes the truth: she’s not Mi-rae.
Our Unwritten Seoul Episode 2 deepens its themes of mistaken identity, moral compromise, and emotional longing.
