Actors Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung reunite in the upcoming Netflix original animated film Lost in Starlight, set for release on May 30. This sci-fi romance tells the story of Nan-young, an astronaut selected for a Mars exploration mission in 2050, and Jay, a repair technician who once dreamed of becoming a musician.
The film follows Nan-young’s pursuit of a lifelong goal shaped by the disappearance of her mother during a prior Mars mission. Before she can depart, a sudden removal from the project forces her back to Earth, where she encounters Jay, the only person who recognizes the music left behind by her mother. Their emotional connection begins when she brings her mother’s old turntable to Jay’s shop for repairs.
Kim Tae-ri lends her voice to Nan-young, a woman of discipline and strength navigating the trauma of personal loss. Hong Kyung voices Jay, a man who once pursued music but now fixes vintage sound equipment while quietly holding onto his dream. The two actors reportedly took part in not just voice acting but also character development and live-action reference filming, helping animate subtle expressions and emotional nuance.
Character stills released show Nan-young in a high-tech space environment and Jay in his analog-themed workspace, hinting at the contrast between their worlds and the romance that bridges them. Director Han Ji-won, known for his visually poetic storytelling, emphasized collaboration with both actors during the creative process.
Lost in Starlight is expected to blend futuristic visuals with emotionally grounded storytelling, enhanced by a soundtrack that complements the film’s nostalgic yet forward-looking tone.
