Law and the City Episode 1: Ju-hyeong’s Case & New Faces
Law and the City Episode 1 introduces us to lawyer An Ju-hyeong, now in his ninth year in the legal world. A narrator sets the tone, explaining how lawyers are always exhausted and tested by deceitful clients. Ju-hyeong is no exception — his experience has taught him he doesn’t need to be friends with his clients to do his job well.
We meet his closest friends: Ha Sang-ki, Cho Chang-won, Bae Mun-jeong, and Yu Dong-wook — all lawyers working in different firms inside the same office building. Together, they share meals and vent about work, cases, and paychecks. Ju-hyeong, who’s notorious for never enjoying blind dates, announces he has one that evening, to the amusement of the group.
Before his date, Ju-hyeong dives into a new case for Park Kyeong-heon, a blind accountant accused of assault by a client named Kim Seung-guk. Years ago, Park took the blame to avoid scandal but now wants to fight for the truth. Digging into the evidence, Ju-hyeong studies a suspicious audio recording and even follows Kyeong-heon to confirm his blindness. Park reveals Seung-guk staged the injuries and the recording to frame him.
As predicted, Ju-hyeong’s blind date is a disaster, so he ends up at dinner with his friends instead. There, they learn that Dong-wook has quit his job, and they raise a glass to his next chapter.

The next day, Law and the City Episode 1 shifts to Kang Hee-ji, an ambitious young lawyer who impresses Kang Jung-yoon, the managing partner at Dong-wook’s old firm. Hee-ji is hired immediately and stumbles upon Dong-wook’s files, finding photos and contacts of Ju-hyeong’s crew — and she seems to recognize Ju-hyeong’s picture.
Meanwhile, Ju-hyeong discovers that Park Kyeong-heon once lived at the same address as Seung-guk. Confronted, Kyeong-heon admits they were lovers, and he had accepted the charges before to protect Seung-guk’s privacy. Now he fears losing his accountant’s license, so Ju-hyeong takes the case to court, strategically describing them as “roommates” to protect Seung-guk’s identity. After winning the hearing, Park thanks Ju-hyeong for trusting him — but Ju-hyeong makes it clear he didn’t trust him blindly; he simply argued the best version of the truth.
Back at the office, a mysterious woman appears before the CEOs of multiple law firms — her powerful aura hints she could be the main antagonist.
At the episode’s end, Ju-hyeong reunites with his friends for drinks, but the atmosphere shifts when Hee-ji enters the restaurant — and Ju-hyeong clearly recognizes her from somewhere.
