Law and the City Episode 2: Ju-hyeong vs Hee-ji
Law and the City Episode 2 opens right where the premiere left off — at a restaurant where Kang Hee-ji joins Ju-hyeong and his lawyer friends. Hee-ji claims they met in Hong Kong ten years ago when Ju-hyeong was still a law student and she was in college. She even reminds him he once asked her to meet again in Seoul. But Ju-hyeong coldly insists he doesn’t remember her, though his reaction says otherwise.
Meanwhile, the building’s owner, Kim Hyung-min, calls all the partners from the different firms together. She pitches a bold idea: merge every firm under one massive name, Law Firm Hyungmin. Though skeptical at first, the partners see how they’d benefit from the publicity and stable leases — while Hyung-min secures long-term tenants who can’t easily move.
The next day, Hee-ji, ever the eager junior, brings coffee for her team and overhears a client asking for legal help with a personal property seizure. Against her seniors’ advice, Hee-ji volunteers. Over lunch with Ju-hyeong’s crew, she shares the plan — they warn her it’s not for rookies. Ju-hyeong also explains his latest case: representing a bank suing a tenant, Jang Hyun-seok, who’s about to be evicted for unpaid loans. In an awkward elevator ride, Ju-hyeong reminds Hee-ji he never would’ve told her to meet him in Seoul.
At the firm, Jang Hyun-seok turns up and pleads with Hee-ji to defend him pro bono. But her boss rejects the idea — they can’t afford charity cases. While reviewing the papers, Hee-ji sees that Ju-hyeong is the lawyer pushing Hyun-seok’s eviction.
In Law and the City Episode 2, Kim Hyung-min demands the merger decision by morning. Meanwhile, Ju-hyeong’s boss, Na Kyung-min, offers him a partner position to help meet the required three-partner minimum, but Ju-hyeong isn’t interested.
Hee-ji heads out for the property seizure task. When the court officers start tagging valuables, the debtors — a couple in a luxury house — humiliate everyone by stripping naked to make them leave. The experience leaves Hee-ji rattled. At lunch, she vents about it and also brings up Jang Hyun-seok. Ju-hyeong’s lack of sympathy surprises her and they clash when she questions his ethics.

At the eviction hearing, Hyun-seok pleads for leniency but Ju-hyeong firmly declines. That same night, a Supreme Court precedent rules that tenants like Hyun-seok can’t be forcibly evicted — a detail Ju-hyeong notices immediately. He tells his bank client to push the lawsuit anyway, betting that no one else knows about the precedent yet. Over dinner, Hee-ji brings it up — instantly realizing Ju-hyeong’s plan is to take advantage of everyone’s ignorance.
Hee-ji then visits Hyun-seok’s house and secretly informs him of the new ruling. At the next hearing, Hyun-seok arrives with the paperwork — formatted in a way that makes Ju-hyeong instantly know it was Hee-ji’s doing. He stalls the case to talk to his client.
Later, Ju-hyeong confronts Hee-ji over lunch. She argues she did the right thing by helping someone keep his home. Ju-hyeong fires back that this precedent will hurt low-income borrowers long term, since banks may refuse loans altogether now. Their clash gets so heated that Mun-jeong has to break it up.
Eventually, Ju-hyeong’s client instructs him to drop the lawsuit — but the tension between Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji lingers through every meal they share with friends. Soon after, all the lawyers receive an email confirming the merger — their separate firms are now united as Law Firm Hyungmin.
As Law and the City Episode 2 closes, Hee-ji visits a peaceful campus walking track she found in Dong-wook’s notes. Ju-hyeong, out for a run, spots her on a bench — and in a fleeting flashback, we see Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji kissing in Hong Kong. He does remember her after all.
