Mark Tuan Prepares for His New EP “Silhouette”
With just over a week left before the launch of his new EP “Silhouette,” singer Mark Tuan is opening up about the project and what it represents for him as an artist. Speaking from his home in Los Angeles during a Zoom interview — his dog Millo sitting just off-camera — Tuan revealed that this release has been in preparation since the start of the year. Describing the EP as an introduction to a more personal and authentic side of himself, he said, “I’m ready to see what the fans think of the new album.”
According to Tuan, “Silhouette” serves not only as a reflection of where he is now but also as a glimpse into where he hopes to take his music next. His new sound blends indie, rock-inspired, and alternative pop elements — genres that mirror his personal listening tastes. “I want to start putting out songs that people can listen to much easier,” he explained. “Something that can go onto their playlist, and they can have it on repeat.”
Leading up to the EP, Tuan has already dropped several singles and accompanying music videos. His first release, “High as You,” is a sensual, smooth track that highlights his growth as a solo artist. The second single, “Hold Still,” takes fans back to his K-pop roots with a bass-heavy track and full dance choreography. “With my first album, I never really showed a full-on dance choreo piece,” he said. “And so I wanted to bring back some of my K-pop roots.”

The choreography has since sparked social media dance challenges, featuring Tuan dancing alongside friends and fellow idols. He emphasized that this project was designed to introduce fans to his evolving sound while also showcasing his love for performance. “I really wanted to have this EP be the introduction to my sound, but I also wanted to give more performances for the fans,” he shared, adding that collaborating with directors and choreographers has reignited his creative energy.
The title “Silhouette” comes from a lyric in the upbeat track “Sunsets and Cigarettes,” which captures nostalgic feelings of a past love. A music video for the song will debut alongside the EP’s release. “This is a silhouette of me. This is who I am, and who I want my fans to see me as,” Tuan explained. “Before this I was really trying to figure out where I wanted to go with my music, because I was just starting out. And I think I’m still in the early phase of my solo career.”
Born in Los Angeles, Mark Tuan began his journey in the entertainment industry after being scouted by a JYP Entertainment recruiter during a high school lunch break. He later moved to Korea to train before debuting as a member of the K-pop group GOT7 in 2014. Today, while members such as Jackson Wang and BamBam have pursued individual careers, the group recently reunited for a comeback EP and a sold-out two-day concert in Thailand — reaffirming their continued bond and connection with fans.
