A surprise announcement about a NewJeans x Indomie pop-up store has left fans and netizens puzzled. The event, promoting Indomie’s Mie Goreng instant noodles, was not announced through official channels, but rather through a popular NewJeans fan account, raising concerns about its authenticity and legality.
On April 25, the fan account posted that a limited-time pop-up store would open from May 1 to May 13, located near Exit 3 of Seongsu Station in Seoul. The post invited “Bunnies” (NewJeans’ fandom) to participate, sharing that attendees could purchase a limited-edition set:
- 20 packs of Mi Goreng noodles
- 7 exclusive NewJeans-themed postcards
The announcement, however, quickly became controversial.
🔍 Netizens Raise Red Flags
Many Korean netizens were alarmed by the unofficial nature of the event and the fact that the fan account was reportedly collecting personal information, possibly for pre-registration or mailing purposes.
Here’s what netizens are saying:
- “It’s a bit suspicious how a fan account is collecting personal information for an event.”
- “Wouldn’t there be legal issues for a fan account to collect data like this?”
- “Is HYBE aware of this? This feels off.”
- “I thought this was an official collaboration… this is legendary.”
With no clear confirmation from Indomie Korea or HYBE/ADOR, speculation has grown rapidly—especially as tensions between NewJeans and their label, ADOR, have been in the spotlight recently.
🤝 Past Collaborations Add to the Confusion
In October 2023, Indomie officially announced NewJeans as ambassadors and launched a “Korean Ramyeon” series. However, that campaign was hit with a trademark controversy over the use of the term “ramyeon,” further complicating public perception.
Now, with a fan account announcing what appears to be a physical store experience, people are asking:
- Is this a guerilla fan project meant to support NewJeans during their feud with the label?
- Or is it an unofficial marketing stunt using the group’s image without proper licensing?
