Our Unwritten Seoul Ep 5 Recap: Mi-ji Learns the Truth
The emotional weight of Our Unwritten Seoul Ep 5 recap begins with a tragic flashback—young Ho-su is involved in a car accident while driving with his father. Years later, the family learns from the doctor that he’ll never fully recover and must live with lasting effects from the incident. This early trauma casts a long shadow on his life. During a school hiking trip, a teen Ho-su decides to take his time climbing the mountain and ends up meeting Mi-ji midway—an encounter that changes everything.
Back in the present, Ho-su confesses that he fell for Mi-ji during that exact hike, calling her his first love. Mi-ji seems touched, but just when the moment feels right, Ho-su walks away for work, leaving her confused. Her doubts stem from a memory—seeing Ho-su and Mi-rae hugging on the day she was hurt. At work, Mi-ji is assigned to write a report for a current project, but she’s overwhelmed and distracted. She soon visits Ro-sa, who reveals she needs surgery for gallstones, forcing Hae-su to postpone a meeting with Mi-rae’s director.
At home, Mi-ji turns to her grandmother for advice. Their conversation reminds her of the promise they made to face life one day at a time. Encouraged, she returns to work. There, she finds a helpful stack of reference materials on her desk—courtesy of her co-worker, Kim Tae-i. Known as a top-tier data analyst, Tae-i agrees to help her after Mi-ji opens up about her personal struggles.

Ho-su and Mi-ji’s Past Comes Into Focus
As part of Our Unwritten Seoul Ep 5 recap, Ho-su’s internal conflict takes center stage. Unsure about his feelings for Mi-ji—who is disguised as Mi-rae—he decides to visit his hometown after a colleague’s suggestion. He meets Mi-rae and opens up about the school hike, explaining how grateful he was for Mi-ji’s encouragement at the summit. But to his surprise, Mi-rae gives no response, leaving him even more confused.
Later, Mi-rae tells Mi-ji about the encounter, which leads to a shocking realization. Mi-rae and Ho-su weren’t dating in high school. On the day Mi-ji believed she saw them hugging, Mi-rae had actually fainted due to illness, and Ho-su had taken her to the hospital. Because the CSAT exams were coming up, Mi-rae made Ho-su promise to keep it a secret.
This truth devastates Mi-ji. For three years, she had lived in isolation, giving up her life and career based on a painful misunderstanding.
Meanwhile, rumors spread in Mi-ji’s hometown that she (actually Mi-rae in disguise) is romantically involved with Se-jin. A few locals misinterpret an argument involving Mi-ji’s ex-boyfriend as a love triangle. Mi-rae’s mother confronts her about the gossip, prompting Mi-rae to relive past trauma. Unable to continue working with Se-jin, she visits him the next day and ends their partnership.
Elsewhere, Mi-rae’s company director takes credit for arranging a meeting with Ro-sa, hoping to gain favor. But Ho-su informs him that Ro-sa has rejected the offer and warns the director to communicate directly with him from now on, not through Mi-ji.
Mi-ji’s Breaking Point and Ho-su’s Honesty
After pouring herself into the report, Mi-ji submits it to her manager, only to be told that it’s sloppy and subpar. Devastated, she drowns her sorrows in alcohol, where she’s eventually found by Tae-i. At the bar, Mi-ji breaks down, revealing how hard it’s been to even step outside her room—how it took her four hours just to visit her grandmother in the hospital. That day, she made a promise to live, one day at a time.
Drunk and emotionally overwhelmed, Mi-ji visits Ho-su’s apartment. She asks him what he really meant when he said he fell for her during the hike. Ho-su responds honestly: Mi-ji had been the only person who believed in him. Without her, he never would have changed or moved forward with his life.
Our Unwritten Seoul Ep 5 recap ends with Mi-ji finally gathering the courage to say the words she had long buried—she likes Ho-su too. For more recap on Our Unwritten Seoul, check out the link below.
