Fans aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet.
As Weak Hero Class 2 premieres on Netflix today (April 25), lead actor Park Ji Hoon is capturing attention not only for his gripping performance but also for his candid confession about future plans — potentially enlisting in the military soon.
In a recent episode of Netflix’s variety show Try Choo-ry!, aired on April 23, Park Ji Hoon surprised fans during a shooting range segment. While handling air rifles, he revealed:
“I want to enlist in the Marine Reconnaissance Unit. I’ve been a military geek since I was a kid. I collect gas guns too. I only play shooting games.”
His statement sparked immediate reactions online, with fans both admiring his aspiration and expressing concern over the potential pause in his flourishing career. The Marine Recon Unit is known to be one of the most elite and physically demanding branches in the South Korean military, amplifying the weight of his declaration.
At 25 years old, Park Ji Hoon is eligible for South Korea’s mandatory military service, which typically lasts 18 to 21 months, depending on the branch. Although there’s no official enlistment date yet, this isn’t the first time he’s shown interest. In a 2023 interview with Sports Chosun, he referred to himself as a “military geek,” citing a long-standing fascination with tactical units.
Park Ji Hoon first rose to fame as a member of Wanna One and has successfully transitioned into acting with standout roles in At a Distance, Spring is Green and Weak Hero Class 1. In the newly released Weak Hero Class 2, he returns as Yeon Si Eun, navigating the challenges of violence, trauma, and friendship in a gripping high school setting.
While fans are eagerly tuning in to watch the second season unfold, a bittersweet feeling lingers — with many wondering just how much longer they’ll be able to enjoy Ji Hoon’s presence on screen before he answers the nation’s call.
