Second Shot at Love Ep 4 opens with Geum-ju at her emotional breaking point, spiraling into self-loathing and alcohol after a string of humiliations and heartbreaks. As her loved ones struggle to help her, Geum-ju’s reckless choices push everyone to their limits—including Ui-joon, who remains quietly supportive. This episode dives deep into regret, forgiveness, and the messiness of trying to change.
Geum-ju Spirals and Ui-joon Stays by Her Side
The episode begins with Hyeon-ju and Jeong-su finding Geum-ju drunk and calling herself a lost cause. Instead of lecturing her, they join in—choosing solidarity over shame. Meanwhile, Gwang-ok and Ui-joon arrive at the temple rehab to check on her, only to discover the trio is missing. When they split up to search, it’s Gwang-ok who spots them first, leading to a hilariously chaotic chase. The trio scatters, and Geum-ju ends up alone, consumed by thoughts of Ju-yeop. That’s when Ui-joon finds her. She breaks down, and as the rain falls, he shields her with his coat. She whispers something that visibly shocks him—but when he brings it up later, she doesn’t remember a thing.
Gwang-ok Turns to Religion and Ui-joon Fights Gossip
As the family returns home, Gwang-ok, now desperate, seeks guidance at a church. The pastor urges her to be patient and loving, but her resolve is tested by the Hans’ continued drinking. Gossip swirls back at the clinic, as Seon-wook and the nurse speculate if Geum-ju is to blame for the rehab failure. Ui-joon overhears and firmly shuts them down.
Trying to help, he encourages Geum-ju to take an alcoholism test. The minimum threshold is 20, but she scores an alarming 40. She laughs it off, claiming she’s merely an “alcohol enthusiast.”
Seon-wook’s Concert Confession Mission
Elsewhere, Hyeon-ju and Seon-wook go out for coffee after taekwondo class. She spots a poster for a sold-out Jang Beom-june concert and sighs. There’s a giveaway, but another hopeful contestant stands in Seon-wook’s way. He reveals he plans to confess his feelings at the concert. The store owner, touched, proposes a foot race. Seon-wook bolts—only to discover his rival is none other than Young-woong, trying to score tickets for both his wife and Hyeon-ju. He fumbles the mission, but Seon-wook arrives and receives the tickets from a colleague who teases him but supports his goal.
Lecture Tensions and Family Fallout
Later, Ui-joon delivers a public lecture on alcoholism. Gwang-ok forces her family to attend, but the Hans quickly grow bored. When Ui-joon starts discussing alcohol-induced blackouts, Geum-ju feels personally attacked. She cringes, wondering if she might have made a move on him without remembering. Frustrated by Gwang-ok’s interventions, the Hans attempt to push back, assuming she’ll stay calm in the name of “love.” They guess wrong—she retaliates physically.
Geum-ju’s Bad Day Gets Worse
While Young-woong is busy, Geum-ju covers for him at the garage. She stops a scam in progress, only to be manhandled by the car owner. Seeing her downcast, Ui-joon secretly buys her favorite dish from a pricey restaurant. As they eat, she admits she misses alcohol. He tries to offer perspective, but she insists he’s never suffered like she has. He quietly wishes she wouldn’t hurt so much, leaving her confused about whether he’s referring to her emotional or physical pain.
In a flashback to 2018, Seon-wook prepares to confess to Hyeon-ju, only for her to suddenly announce her marriage. In the present, Young-woong is stunned to learn Seon-wook still harbors feelings. He disapproves, citing their friend’s sister code. Seon-wook counters—Seon-hwa is his sister.
The Wedding That Should Have Been
As Geum-ju reflects on the things she said during her blackout, it hits her: today was supposed to be her wedding day. Her father, Jeong-su, looks defeated as he tosses aside his wedding speech. She finds and reads it—he’d written that although he’s a “pitiful dad,” he hopes she finds happiness with Ju-yeop. She breaks down. Things get worse when she forgets to cancel the wedding bus. It arrives, filled with alcohol, embarrassing Gwang-ok in front of the townspeople. Gwang-ok tries to disown Geum-ju on the spot, but Ui-joon covers for her and takes her away on a drive.
On the bus, Geum-ju imagines the wedding that never was. She concedes that Ui-joon was right—she has been hurting people. Overwhelmed, she throws him out and heads into the city to crash Ju-yeop’s wedding. Instead of confronting him, she drinks.
Regret, Realizations, and Redemption
Back in town, Hyeon-ju blames herself. She believes her divorce has made people more critical of Geum-ju. Seon-hwa consoles her while Seon-wook is visibly stunned. Quietly, he hands the concert tickets to Young-woong.
Ui-joon arrives at the wedding venue and hears guests mocking Geum-ju. Furious, he blocks the couple’s car, delaying their departure. That night, he finally finds her again. It’s raining. He offers her an umbrella. She’s grateful—and then she remembers what she said during her blackout. Ashamed, she finally admits she wants to stop drinking. She asks for his help. He agrees.
