Captain Yang Under Suspicion in Nine Puzzles Episode 8
Nine Puzzles episode 8 kicks off with a suspenseful scene as Cheol-jin sails alone off the coast of Jeju, only to be startled awake by an unexpected figure. Meanwhile, news of I-na’s arrest reaches the Hangang police, leaving Han-saem frustrated as she maintains her usual mischievous and aloof demeanor during interrogation. Even with Captain Yang and Chief Hyun stepping in, I-na appears more puzzled by Yang’s defense of her than concerned about the charges.
The Puzzle Deepens in Jeju
Coincidentally, Dr. Hwang and Dr. Lee are in Jeju for a seminar on darkness and retaliation. Han-saem enlists their help, hoping I-na will open up. Instead, she hands over a new puzzle piece—this one showing a man in a burger-eating contest. The image adds yet another mystery to the growing puzzle of interlinked murders.
When Han-saem confronts Yang about withholding the puzzle piece from Reporter Lee’s crime scene, Yang deflects, citing mistrust over Han-saem’s closeness to I-na. Despite the tension, I-na finally offers a lead—her alibi lies with a taxi ride she took at 5 PM, well before the murder’s timeframe of 5 to 8 PM. With this evidence, she is cleared.
I-na’s Calculated Risk
Once exonerated, I-na admits to staging her own arrest, convinced that the killer only wants her alive to continue the game. This bold move narrows her list of potential suspects to those who aided her: Chief Hyun, Captain Yang, Dr. Hwang, and Dr. Lee.
Back in Seoul, I-na interrogates Dr. Lee, who confesses that she remained with I-na’s case out of a desire to outperform Dr. Hwang, her predecessor. I-na snoops around Hwang’s room for further clues, while Han-saem digs into Yang’s shady past.
Yang’s Secrets Come to Light
Han-saem visits Yang’s former partner at Mapo Precinct, uncovering that Yang lied about having a sibling the night Dong-hoon died—placing him dangerously close to the crime scene. Further damning evidence includes bar records placing him at Jinhui Bar, just a shortcut away from Dong-hoon’s house, the night of the murder.
The investigation escalates as Chief Hyun forms a special task force led by Dong-su, with I-na revealing that six puzzle pieces have appeared so far, with three more expected to complete the killer’s game.
Tensions Boil Over
During a late-night drink, Han-saem and I-na discuss Yang’s suspicious behavior. She reveals that Cheol-jin feared being targeted next due to his involvement with The One City construction project. Cheol-jin also knew I-na’s parents and expected her to be close to his son, Yeong-hun—connections that deepen the mystery.
Han-saem privately informs Dong-su of his suspicions about Yang. At the next police meeting, the cause of Cheol-jin’s death is revealed to be strangulation. Yang grows wary, suspecting Han-saem is investigating him.
Flight records reveal Yang was in Jeju not only on the day of Cheol-jin’s murder but also a month prior. In a desperate bid to confirm his fears, Han-saem has Choi San hypnotized. Under hypnosis, Choi recalls Yang pocketing the missing handkerchief from Yoon-su’s crime scene.
A Dramatic Cliffhanger
Nine Puzzles episode 8 ends with a tense confrontation. Han-saem storms up to Yang, who calmly pulls out the incriminating handkerchief. With this shocking revelation, the spotlight intensifies on Captain Yang as the possible puzzle killer, raising the stakes for everyone involved.
