Song Min-ho Indicted for Military Service Act Violations Following Absenteeism Probe

Song Min-ho has officially been indicted for violating the Military Service Act, following a detailed investigation into allegations surrounding his alternative social service duty. On the 30th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office announced that Song Min-ho and a facility manager, identified as Mr. A, were both indicted without detention in connection with the case.

According to prosecutors, the indictment was based on objective evidence, including mobile phone forensic data and GPS records. These materials allowed investigators to conduct a direct supplementary investigation, during which they confirmed multiple additional instances of unauthorized absences beyond what was initially reported.

The controversy first surfaced last December, when Song Min-ho became embroiled in allegations of improper fulfillment of his social service duties. Investigative reports revealed that he had frequently used leave and failed to properly report for duty on several occasions. These claims were further reinforced by testimonies from colleagues who worked alongside him, who reportedly raised concerns about his inconsistent attendance.

Song Min-ho had taken sick leave citing conditions such as social anxiety and panic disorder. However, the situation escalated after he was reportedly spotted attending parties in Goseong and Yangyang in Gangwon Province during periods when he was supposedly unable to perform his duties. These sightings fueled public skepticism and intensified scrutiny surrounding his service record.

The artist began his alternative service in March 2023 at the Mapo District Facilities Management Corporation before later transferring to the Mapo District Community Service Center. He completed his service and was officially discharged on December 23 of the same year. Despite his discharge, the investigation continued, ultimately leading to the current indictment.
