During their efforts, Head Eunuch Kim accidentally reveals that Gangcheori has been worrying about her, which catches Yeo-ri off guard. Meanwhile, by the riverbank, the drowned ghost—under Pung-san’s orders—targets the King and later Gangcheori. However, the King and Gangcheori work together to trap the ghost. Yeo-ri arrives just in time to break the curse after Gangcheori collapses, and when he awakens, she pulls him into a heartfelt hug.

Pung-san suspects Yeo-ri’s origins after the curse is broken

Pung-san grows suspicious of Yeo-ri’s powers, suspecting her origins in Yongdam village may have something to do with it. A flashback reveals that Pung-san was present when Neop-deok died, adding a sinister edge to his motivations. Meanwhile, Bibi sees Yeo-ri hugging Gangcheori and gets an ominous feeling, but the King and his court simply find Gangcheori’s flustered reaction amusing. Gangcheori and the King call a truce, and the latter heads to see his now-recovered wife.

The ghost’s skull and Yeo-ri’s sudden popularity

Gangcheori and Yeo-ri interrogate the drowned ghost, discovering that his skull was hidden in the Queen’s pillow to make him attack her. He agrees to help once Yeo-ri promises to return his remains to his daughter. After this, the King becomes overly affectionate with Yeo-ri, riling up Gangcheori. It turns out the King did it just to tease him. During a spiritual reunion, the ghost possesses Yeo-ri to say goodbye to his daughter, revealing that a mysterious “blind yapper” has been using him—someone also mentioned by the 8-foot ghost.

The blind yapper and his twisted power over the nobles

This “blind yapper” is shown working with one of Minister Kwak’s associates, providing supernatural solutions to nobles for personal gain. While Kwak is skeptical, he still takes a talisman. Meanwhile, Choi Won-u is desperately hunting for a contaminated book in the market. When attacked by the one-legged ghost, he is saved by Ga-seop and Noh, who advise him to atone for his sins.

Tensions rise as Gangcheori struggles with Yeo-ri’s well-being

Gangcheori grows concerned for Yeo-ri’s health after she becomes exhausted from the possession. He mocks the ghost’s fatherly devotion, claiming humans don’t live long, which prompts Yeo-ri to criticize him for being emotionally cold. At the same time, Pung-san burns all the evidence of his dealings, correctly assuming the ghost ratted him out. His fears are confirmed when the guards raid the Blind Fortune Tellers’ Association. The King interrogates Pung-san, who insists he’s only been comforting the Queen Mother since her husband’s death in the Year of the Water Rabbit.

Gangcheori’s jealousy and Yeo-ri’s mixed signals

That night, Yeo-ri and Gangcheori dine at an inn. They bicker about whether to stay or leave, and Gangcheori secretly makes it rain so they’re stuck there. He watches her sleep, and when she catches him, he awkwardly blames his feelings on possessing Yoon Gap’s body. In a vulnerable moment, he questions whether her smiles are meant for Yoon Gap or for him. Flustered, Yeo-ri quickly changes the topic.

Pung-san walks free while the King secretly plots

Though Pung-san is scolded by the imprisoned shamans, he is confident he’ll be released. As expected, his powerful clients defend him. Even Kwak and Minister Kim find it ridiculous that the Queen Mother would use a blind man to curse the Queen. They caution the King not to provoke the Queen Mother’s supporters. The King relents and frees the shamans, but tasks his inner circle with locating the Blind Yapper in secret.

Yeo-ri learns a devastating truth about Neop-deok

While speaking to the King, Yeo-ri is devastated to learn that Neop-deok died in the Year of the Water Rabbit—the same year her grandmother was killed. Wracked with guilt, she becomes distant with Gangcheori, who is left confused. In a surprising twist, the child ghost reveals that Neop-deok was summoned 13 years ago to exorcise the 8-foot ghost. Was Neop-deok killed in revenge? Shocked, Yeo-ri flees to find answers.

The ghost’s plot thickens and Yeo-ri’s lineage is exposed

While venting to Bibi, Gangcheori is asked whether he regrets lying about killing Neop-deok. Yeo-ri confronts the King and learns that the 8-foot ghost once possessed the King’s father. Neop-deok tried to exorcise him but died soon after, supposedly from an accident. Together, they realize that the ghost’s master orchestrated both the exorcist’s and the previous king’s deaths. As The Haunted Palace Episode 8 ends, Minister Kim destroys the ghost’s fire and attacks Pung-san, revealing that he hired the shaman who tried to kill the Crown Prince.
