On April 30th, behind-the-scenes footage of the play Killing Caesar was released, showing the practice session at Chungmu Art Hall in Seoul. The rehearsal was attended by director Oh Se-hyuk, actors Kim Jung, Kim Jun-won, Son Ho-jun, Yang Ji-won, and Yoo Seung-ho.
Killing Caesar explores the irony that the assassination of Julius Caesar, carried out in the name of protecting the Republic, ultimately paved the way for the rise of another dictator. The play reimagines Caesar’s assassination as a modern drama, addressing its profound impact on history.
Yoo Seung-ho plays the role of Brutus, an idealist caught in the dilemma of betraying a friend for the ideal of the Republic. This is Yoo’s second theater performance, following his debut in Angels in America.
Yoo shared his thoughts on returning to the stage: “It’s true that I didn’t hear a good story when I was doing Angels in America. The stage fright was too severe, and acting in front of the audience was a big challenge. It was a lot of hard work, but after that, I started to miss the moments when I played alongside the actors.”
He continued, “I’ve been able to rely on a lot of people, and we’ve been able to support each other. I don’t know exactly why my body is moving, but I’m doing a play. It doesn’t have to be a big theater. I think that if we communicate a little more closely with the audience and act, our hearts will be well conveyed.”
Meanwhile, Killing Caesar will be performed at the Mary Hall Grand Theater of Sogang University from May 10th to July 20th.
